Review for Asus Padfone X

It all started back in 2011 when ASUS released the original Padfone which broke barriers in Android history. Three years and three Padfones later, ASUS has created the Padfone X in a creative hybrid phone/tablet device. Through much trial and error, ASUS has been able to create a fun and exotic device, refined down to only the best characteristics. This newer, faster version of their older varieties is more attractive than ever and has a new look as well to draw in the younger crowd and entice new customers.

Design

The largest standout of the Padfone X is the large 5 inch 1080 p display due to the overall design being slightly more subtle. Just like you'd expect, the speaker is on the top of the front of the phone right under a 2 megapixel front facing camera. A sleep button is on the right edge of the phone, right above the volume rocker, conveniently placed for quick access with your thumb. The best feature on the phone would have to be the two hidden holes on the bottom of either side of the USB port which are meant to anchor the phone to it's exoskeleton, converting it to the larger tablet device.

A smaller bit of detail displayed in the back of the phone is a removable backplate with tiny silver specs, creating a subtle yet attractive look. On the back of the phone is also a 13 megapixel camera which is just left of the center with a LED flash and speaker grille set to the right of it. With the back removed, you will see the microSD reader as well as a microSIM card slot right by the 2300 mAh battery.

Tech SpecsAsus-Padfone-Mini-X

Inside the Padfone X is an impressive amount of power and technology which is what really counts in a phone. There is a Qualcomm 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor as well as 2 GB of RAM. This powerhouse combination creates a flawlessly smooth experience with no lagging or freezing. When you want to transform the phone into the "pad" you can attach it to the larger device for a full 9" display. In the larger device, ther eis a 4990 mAh reserve battery to keep up the entertainment for hours on end. For even more versatility, there is a specially designed Bluetooth keyboard available to purchase which can be used with the pad.

The display on both the phone and the larger pad are quite impressive with vibrant, bold colors with a crisp display. Viewing angles are also quite impressive with hardly any color or visual distortion even from the most obscure angles. The brightness can be adjusted to be viewed in the bright sunlight but in some environments, it's just not strong enough to avoid some glare.

The Bottom Line

It's about time that an electronics manufacturer has spent the time and technology to create a hybrid device that everyone can benefit from. Having a phone and tablet in one device is incredibly convenient and this special Padfone X allows you to keep the convenient small size and transform it larger when necessary. The thoughtful design paired with award winning software has created the next-generation of electronics that is worthy of every bit of praise it's received. The ASUS PadFone X Qatar price could start around QAR 700 with a contract but past that, we're not quite sure what the full retail price could be.
